Born and raised in Hamilton, Ontario, Rudy Kopriva learned the value of hard work from his parents who immigrated to Canada from Austria and built a successful sporting goods business. Rudy knew from a young age that Funeral Service was his calling. He received his funeral director's licence in 1967 and worked for a number of years before realizing his dream of operating his own establishment. In 1977 Rudy and his wife Ilona moved to Oakville where together, they served the community for over 30 years. Rudy was a big man with a big heart. At 6ft. 4in., he was known for his warm compassionate personality, quick wit and endless generosity. He worked tirelessly on many local fundraising endeavors and community projects. He was specially known for his role as campaign chair for the Canadian Cancer Society's Daffodil Campaign and in 1989 Rudy was named Oakville's Business Person of the year. An honour he shared with Ilona. Rudy believed in people. He surrounded himself with highly competent staff who became more than just employees; they were family. Together, they provided a level of service dedicated to to the complete care for the families that they serve at a most difficult time. Terry Cooke began working for Rudy & Ilona following graduation from Humber College in 1983 and has played a role in the management and ownership of the business since Rudy's passing in 1998. In 2019 with Ilona's retirement from daily activities at the funeral home, Terry has taken over sole ownership of the business. Today, Terry & his dedicated team endeavor to carry on Rudy and Ilona's legacy.
